Delta has long been committed to improving water resources
management measures and pursuing maximum water efficiency for its
plants. In addition to prioritizing the use of water-saving
equipment and devices, Delta strives to increase the water
recycling rate, reduce waste water, and implement
awareness-raising activities. Delta aims to reduce overall water
intensity by another 30% by 2020 with 2015 as the base year .

Water Productivity Intensity at Plants: In 2019, the WPI of the
main production plants was 505 metric tons/million USD, a
decrease of 6.0% compared with 2018 and a decrease of 24.6%
compared with 2015.

Water Consumption Intensity at Buildings: In 2019, the WCI of
eight buildings was 24.5 metric tons/Capita, a decrease of 18.4%
compared to 2018 and a decrease of 28.3% compared to 2015.

Establishing a Risk Identification Assessment Model and Risk
Assessment
Delta uses the Aqueduct water resource risk assessment tool
developed by the World Resources Institute (WRI) to conduct water
risk analysis. Because the database lacks local data in Taiwan,
the statistical data of the Hydrological Year Book is adopted as
the basis for analysis rather than the original Taiwan data.
Delta established the Delta Water Risk Assessment System in
Taoyuan in 2019 to further take into account the water threshold
of a plant in Taoyuan and the future regional development. Through
the scenario setting of RCP at 2.6 and RCP at 8.5, this system
evaluates the current situation and future risk levels and plans
an adjustment path to strengthen the resilience of water resources
for the plant. Through this demonstration plant, this evaluation
method, process, and experience will be extended to other plants
in the future, and regional evaluations will be conducted for the
local area to achieve sustainable water use.
Water Consumption Review
The main source of water in Delta's production plants is tap water
(99.0%), which is mainly used for cooling towers, restaurants, and
daily general sanitation for cleaning bathrooms. Delta's total
water withdrawn, water consumption, and water discharge amount at
all production plants in 2019 were 3,790.3 megaliters, 1,133.0
megaliters, and 2,657.3 megaliters, respectively (domestic sewage
at 93.0% and process wastewater at 7.0%). The total water
withdrawn, water consumption, and water discharge amounts of the
buildings were 206.1 megaliters, 61.4 megaliters, and 144.7
megaliters, respectively.
Improvement Measures
All production plants and buildings implemented 97 programs in
2019, including rainwater reuse, condensate recycling, water
outlet pressure control, as well as equipment adjustment and
improvement, saving 411.4 megaliters of water consumption. In
2019, the total recycled water volume at all production plants
reached 430.9 million liters, and the recycled water utilization
rate reached 10.3%.
